Yukon Bound

Yukon Bound

July 10

Wild fires all through the Chilcotin, roads closed at Ashcroft, Cache Creek, 102 Mile House, Quesnel and evacuation alert for Williams Lake.
So, on to plan B. Instead of going up the Fraser Canyon, we will do the Coquillaha and continue on 5 to Mc Bride and take the Yellowhead number 16 to Prince George.

July 11

After seeing Drayson off at Comox Airport, we returned to our trailer in Qualicum to do a repack from our Quadra week. Oh dear, the fridge/ freezer had not converted to propane and after three days of thawing, need to throw away food. That broke my heart!
Early to bed because we leave at 6 am for a reservation on the ferry.

July 12

Learned there was a wildfire in Clearwater so not sure how far we would get today.
Luck was with us, that fire contained but still smoky as we drove through. Had planned on camping at North Thompson Provincial Park but too much smoke so moved on to Riverside Campsite in Avola, close to Blue River.
Gas stops in Hope and Kamloops.

July 13

Stops in McBride, historical train station museum, Ancient Forest and Prince George.
Gas 95.3 cents a litre!
Stopped for the night in Vanderhoof, another Riverside RV Park. Biked for an hour along the river, beautiful and fresh.
Late dinner followed by our daily Kings Cribbage challenge. Drats, boys up 2-0!
The girls had a 90 point lead in tonight's game and suddenly the boys woke up and won by 12 points!

July 14

Left our trailers behind and went exploring.
Fort St James National Historic site, took in the famous chicken race then checked out the Farmers Market at Spirit Square.
Farther up hwy 26 we found Tache, a name I had heard from friends who had taught there.
Back to Vanderhoof for dinner with family friends who moved there last summer.

Great day!
