Delivering Food Hampers

Dec11, 2013

Food hampers here are called dispensas, a clear plastic bag with daily essentials. After the Community Outreach Committee had 120 dispensas ready to go, we had the grand honor of accompanying committee members to the highways and byways.
Packing some into the delivery car

waiting for DIF who are comparable to our Social Services. They were to be there at 9:30 with their van and list of folks to visit. at 10:30, they were still not there, sooooooo

We filled private vehicles and head out on our own. The committee has been to many places in the last few years

for your lap, Dave

contents of a dispensa...

corn flour, rice, cooking oil, milk, juice, soup stock, beans, face soap, sleeve of cookies, saltinas.

next car please.

okay, off we go to El Ranchito

very appreciative young family

sometimes we climb hills to reach the elderly, widowed or single parents

and leave the cars at the bottom

just as difficult going down

of course the first thing out of the plastic bag is the cookies

Happy to see us here as well

addios, mis amigos!

Three hours later, a lunch break at our favorite coffee roaster and goodie shop

and Aiden saw Lou coming.... shared cinnie bun together each week

back on the road, over to Barra. This older lady stays here by herself and a gentleman comes at night to stay with her and she feels safe.

Dear sweet couple. She was born in 1928 and her husband has not talked for some years

and a three month old smile sends us on our way!
