So the plan ...to revisit Guadalajara , mostly to get back to Tonala and find out what happened to our shipment that should have left Mexico November 12, 2012.
So planned to meet up with two couples who had never been before and who did not know each other, the result... Lots of memories made!
The Holms from Merville, near Comox arrived at the hotel the day before us so went off on a tour to Tequila before we arrived and the Kleins from Alberni arrived at noon that day and spent the afternoon walking tjrough the neighbourhood.
Our bus took six hours from Mazatlan so we arrived in time for dinner. The chosen place was a Chinese buffet, just for a change.
The six of us had an early night then down to the Frances to The Hole in the Wall and our favorite breakfast chef. Note, be careful if you order the special. Frank's eyes bulged when he received his plate with four eggs on top of four pancakes and four slices of bacon. And the good boy ate the whole, thing!!
From there to the Tapatio kiosk for choices of four tours on double decker buses. We are seniors now so got to ride around all day for 70 pesos, about $5.60, and could hop on , hop off wherever we wanted.
We decided two zones a day would probably be enough so chose Tonala and Tlequepaque for the first day, margaritas to end the afternoon at the Frances, two for one and Umberto makes the best ones in Guadalajara! Dinner for the six of us, then music, a good walk and dance til my feet hurt.
Memorable evening, especially the mocjetes, mine was shrimp, beef and Oaxaca cheese. Never mind the cholesterol for one day!
The stop in Tonala was successful, found our shop and got things set for another try at the shipment. The brother has taken over the shop and will email mema photo of our crate being loaded on to a UPS truck.............We wiil see!
Breakfast the next morning at Chai and off for the other two zones, Zapopan and Guadalajara City. Hot sun, nice breeze and lots to see.
Said farewll to the Holms. They are catching a bus to Huanahuato, then back to PV to fly home
Dave, Frank and Janice hiked down the ten blocks to the three story mercado, the oldest in the country with over 300 stores. The two boys returned with matching hats and big smiles.
I am happy to say that Dave will leave his old favorite ten year old smelly hat behind in a garbage can in this fair city!
The girls managed to find some lovely sandals at a great sale so everyone is happy as we set off for happy hour, dinner and an early night. The Kleins have a bus back to Bucerias and ours heads in the other direction to Mexico City.
Wonderful three days and a great time had by all.
Revisited many sites on the Tapatio double decker bus, 2 zones each day.
From our favorite onyx shop in Tonala. If it weren"t so heavy, we would bring it home for Jim Anaka's collection!!
Good use for an old car!
