Machu Picchu

My train, my car

got me to Aguas Calientes before noon and I had a wonderful time exploring this sweet town.

Absolutely no motorized vehicles here except the buses to the top of Machu Picchu and they operate from that side of the valley so no pollution and very happy and safe children, no worries about cars on their streets

Sky lights on the train

On the way up the hill to the hot springs

That translates to :
baked guinea pig
alpaca steak
Andean rooster
baked trout
special potatoes etc

no delivery trucks here!

great playing fields , in the evening they are full of soccer and volleyball players

every ten minutes these buses do the 8 double back switchbacks to the top, hard to imagine they can meet another one on the way down, but they are on walkie talkies full time

Next morning at seven, I took the bus to the top to greet the hikers who had broken camp at 3 am in order to make the Sun Gate by sunrise, oops, no sign of the sun here this morning.

The ruins were neatly covered the whole valley of fog

which quickly dissipated as we arrived.
As the fog lifted these amazing buildings emerged

Happy to be here!

Me too!

The whole gang

I had no idea this place was so huge! At one point, there were 1000 people living here.

Some engineering feat

The quarry

temple of the puma

Temple of the Condor

The head of the condor is on the ground

And of course there is an opportunity to buy souvenirs at the bottom of the mountain

I was pleased to show Dave the town I had enjoyed the day before.
