Happy Anniversary

Dec 30, 2016

After a lovely breakfast at our hotel, CityExpress, in Los Mochis, we made our way south on the toll road 15 to Mazatlan. It seemed like an expensive day for tolls but the highway was great so worth the price.
Once again, the GPS took us on a wild goose chase in Mazatlan, looking for Sleep Inn.
So, with some help from the gal at City Express, we made our way to Sleep Inn at the marina,  checked in, read a book by the pool then head  out for our anniversary dinner.
We had no destination, decided to follow our nose. After winding through a gated community surrounding a golf course, we were at El Cid area and the first restaurant sign was Los Arcos. Stop the car and weave your way through the gas station traffic to be greeted by a valet in the back who tells you that this is a seafood restaurant. Bonus!
What a busy bustling place!
Mentioned to our friendly host it was our anniversary. Quantos anos? 44. That seemed to be really impressive.
After a glass of wine  we had an incredible meal, Dave with the Seahorse shrimp stuffed with cream cheese, onion and octopus served with a mango sauce and my rollo del mer. Oh my gosh, it was sooooo good.
Then a complimentary dessert, churros with two dipping sauces...chocolate. And vanilla.
What we thought was the conclusion to a lovely evening caught us off guard.
A wedding march sounded loud and clear and I seriously thought a bride and groom were entering the restaurant. No! A staff of 8 or 9 guys approached our table with a tres leche cake, candles included. I was speechless and tears flowed. This was over the top!
The only two white folk in a restaurant filled with over 50 patrons and everyone was celebrating with us. This, my fear friends, is Mexico!
As we drove back to our hotel I was still in awe of the food, the service and the whole atmosphere, definitely a night to remember!

Tomorrow we will drive to La Penita to share New Years with the Dixons and Robinsons,  the Port Alberni connection.
It was 30 degrees today, promises to be the same tomorrow so now we move into the next suitcase and dig out the sunscreen.
We have been alerted of the gasoline shortage, due to a break in the line in Aguacalientes as well as the price adjustments made annually on Jan 1. Two Pemex stations out of fuel in Guayabitos so we topped up the tank here this evening, should get us to PV, past the problem area.
Happy New Year to all!
Rosemary and Dave
