January, 2017

January 4, 2017

And what a lovely New Years Eve indeed! The Dixons are such gracious hosts! After happy. Hour on the roof patio, the six of us went to Irma's, certainly not disappointed with her awesome chiles rellanos. Back to the rooftop for bubbly and we actually made it to midnight and watched a spectualar fireworks dsplay from Residincia Guayabitos
New Years day we toured Rincon and Los Aylos, lots of constuction, new hotels and oodles of Mexican tourists.
We did a big grocery shop for all our bulk food.. oatmeal, raisins, dried cranberries, flax, lentils, rice etc
An early start, 7:30 on Jan 2, realizing we would lose an hour at the Jalisco border, planned a stop in Petula to see Robin and Sandy and be in Melaque before 4. Oh the traffic to PV, both directions bumper to bumper, all the Mexican holidayers heading back to Durango, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
Then a big protest in PV over the increase in the price of gas, some streets blocked off so it was slow getting through the city.  I had forgotten that the first third and last third of the road between PV and Melaque is a very twisty trail, sure happy when we drove through Los Arcos!

Greetings from folks on our corner and now mostly unpacked.
This year bringing the car meant adding many possibilities, such as canning jars, food chopper and necessary spices for pepper jellies, salsas and antipasto. Looking forward to all the fresh ingredients and the finished products.
Also brought along a crock pot and rice cooker, planning on many home cooked meals this year.

It is always fun opening our storage totes  but over the years we seem to be increasing the number of totes! So much for our simple lifestyle here!
Quickly getting back to routine. Dave played pickle ball yesterday morning, will do a big bike ride today with the guys.
I walked on my own yesterday as I was a little late for the 7:30 start but will be on time to join the gals for the Cuastacomote Mtn jaunt. Pilates resume on Thursday as does  Sequence  then bridge on Tuesdays. That's enough routine for me, want lots of free time to be with friends.
Now, if those silly dogs would sleep through the night, so would I!! Ha!
