July 22, 23 Atlin, Snafu Lake, Carcross, Carcross Desert, Caribou Crossing, Emerald Lake, birthday dinner in Whitehorse.

Saturday, July 22

Atlin today. Lovely little village, great gallery an artisans fare in an old court house. They clear out the art for court cases at the end of the season.

On a quick stop to check email at the Service Canada building, had a message from a friend in Qualicum. She asked us to hug her teacher friend from here, so we went to the Trading Post, asked the cashier if she knew this lady. Yes. She phoned her for me and we were hugging in the parking lot 5 minutes later!

Right from her composting effort!
Side trips to the historical graveyard, off road to see a dredge, found the collapsed buildings at a place called Discovery then checked out Warm Springs. Maybe I was expecting something like our Hot Springs in Ahoushat but we arrived at what looked like a farmer's field with a small pond. Changed into swimsuits but the water was barely past our knees and only lukewarm, not worth getting the bathing suit wet so returned to Snafu Campground for yummy burgers.

The warm springs!!!!

NOT!!

Boats in the water after dinner but not for long, a surprise rain shower sent everyone back to the trailers.

Sunday, July 23  Happy 65th Birthday to me!

Celebrated the day in Carcross, short name for Cariboo Crossing, visited the General Store, the bakery for some of the best cinnie buns ever!, the cultural centre.
Saying goodbye to Snafu Lake

In Carcross

Mexican man and his dad do impressive metal work

Searching for the cinnie buns!

The only mosquito we found on the whole trip!!

Cariboo Crossing Wildlife and RCMP museum, husky training centre with 100 dogs and some adorable eight week old puppies, Carcross Desert, Emerald Lake then in to Whitehorse by 3.

Reservations for dinner at Klondike Ribs and Salmon, Everyone ordered northern fare, delicious meal, great service. Busy, busy, lined up for 40 minutes but well worth it, lots of chatter in the line up with fellow travellers, one lady from Woodstock, NB, who curls with my old roommate from university! World is getting smaller.

A quick grocery shop and back to Pioneer RV Site, chatting, still bright daylight when we said good night at 11.
