July 20,21 Boya Lake, Nugget City, Teslin, Jake's Corner, Snafu Lake

July 20

A morning paddle on Boya then made our way to the Junction of the Cassiar and Alaskan highways.   Had thought we might camp at Nugget City, lovely ads in the travel brochures but decided to go on to Teslin private TV on Teslin Lake, showers and laundry in order.

Teslin Bridge

At Nugget City I found both volumes of Robert Service's poetry. The word "city" not be  taken seriously in this part of the country. This city has one family with a big store, gas bar, restaurant and campground!
Teslin has a beautiful silver bridge and very large lake. We knew before arriving that Dave's cousin who lives here, is in NS this week so we will visit them on our return route two weeks time.
Checked out the Wildlife Museum

An evening walk took us past their home to the George Johnson outdoor museum. What an interesting man he was, has a car here in 1929 before the road was built, painted it white to hunt on the ice in winter, later painted it back to it's original color and had drivers with uniforms offer rides and tours.
Teslin was a site for radio towers in the World War with four towers set up in a square, set to form a cone dead zone for plane detection. Will research that concept when wifi is available.
Kings Cribbage daily challenge is getting tense! Though the boys have more wins, the  girls have more points! Some of us thinks the wins are what counts but after ten days, the see saw effect is real!

July 21

A huge drive today, 110 km, 90 minutes! Turned south at Jake's Corner to see Atlin, BC. With plans to park our trailers for two nights at Snafu Lake Park, play for one day and go into Atlin for the second day.
Upon arriving shortly after ten, we encountered a traffic jam! Only 10 sites here and a one way road. One couple trying to leave, had to jockey backwards so a guy with his boat and the two of us could get through. The boat guy, who lived in PA from 2010-2013. ( children went to Gill School ) managed to get to the boat ramp. We got tucked into number 5 and the Pattersons parked in the boat launch parking. Well worth the effort as we spent the whole afternoon on the lake. Dave washed his fishing hooks very well. We only saw one perch caught and he was a good size. Catch and release for the trout and all barbless hooks, strictly enforced, we were informed.

No catch so enjoyed the Prince Rupert cod and sole from the freezer.
