July31-Aug2 from Dawson City to Whitehorse, stops at Mayo, Pelly Crossing, Carmacks, Twin lakes, Lake Lafarge and Takhini

Monday, July 31

To Moose Creek Campground and on the Silver Trail to Mayo.
Good promotion of their historic town through a self guided walking tour.

This was the school!

Lovely weather again today. It has been working well to move our trailers to a chosen campground early in the day, set it up and explore the area or the afternoon, back in time to make our 6:30 dinner, continue the Kings Cribbage Challenge and enjoy our campfire until 11. All is well!

Tuesday,  Aug 1
First stop, Pelly Crossing, free popcorn with gas purchase. Big Jonathan House Museum does a good job of sharing the Selkirk people's heritage. The Crow and the Wolf.

Five Finger Rapids still has the old cable that helped stern wheelers navigate this difficult section of the Yukon River. Some canoes were making their way between Whitehorse and Dawson, a ten day experience. Dave's friend Jim from the Dawson Golf Course is on one such journey as we speak.

Carmacks, named after George Carmack, a gold miner who struck it rich after many years of persistence. His Claim has been renamed Bonanza Creek. Only place to cross the Yukon River between Whitehorse and Dawson City.
Walked the 2 km boardwalk along the Yukon then carried on to see their historic sites......a roadhouse, numerous cabins, a stable, coal cars

4 pm, back to the Cultural Centre but it closed at 4 so moved on to our campsite at Twin Lakes.

An evening paddle was so peaceful, a lonely loon was very vocal, a beaver showing off his diving skills in front of his lodge and a surprising number of seagulls provided our entertainment. Only saw two fish jump and neither of them jumped on to the fisherman's hook!

Wednesday, Aug 2

Morning paddle on Twin Lakes before our late check out and on to Lake Labarge to find another Melaque pickle ball partner. She was to be on her way to the National Senior Games at the age of 82! But on the wait list for a new knee.
We bought bread, cinnie buns and blueberry pie from her Mom's Bakery.

Biked through the Takhini Wildlife Animal Reserve and camped at Takhini Hot Springs to enjoy an evening in their springs.
